ABOUT

Hi, I'm Laurie!
I'm a children's book illustrator. I work in both digital and traditional mediums and enjoy experimenting with a combination of both. I enjoy humorous, whimsical pieces but I also enjoy softer and more heartfelt works.
Experience
I have a diploma in Advertising Art, and I spent 30 plus years in the printing/publishing industry. I’ve also been a watercolour portrait artist for 40 years, but since my heart’s always been with children’s book illustration, I decided a few short years ago to leave all that behind and take the plunge into kidlit art.
An Early Start
I was 3 years old when my dad (a sign painter at the time) was working in our living room late one evening on a job for a client. Apparently I wasn't sleepy - too busy studying his technique, I guess - so his plan was to lay down beside me until I fell asleep, then he would get back up and continue working.
Well, by the time HE woke up, I had all but finished his sign for him, helpful child that I was. Needless to say, he was up for the rest of the night, frantically transforming my masterpiece back into something recognizable for the client. And the rest is history!
A Little About Me
Besides painting and all things artsy-fartsy, sparkly and wonderfully colourful I love flowers, children's literature, creative writing and Jesus. And although we live in a world with much suffering and despair, I can look at the beautiful face of a child or the intricate details of an orchid and delight in the beauty that our Creator has given us.
I live in a quaint little harbour town on the northern shore of Lake Erie, in Ontario, Canada with my husband and two fur-baby pups, and enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren.
